Rolex 24 - 2012 Overview
The 50th Running of the Rolex 24! We spent three days trackside, capturing more than 1600 images. Friday we participated in a Corvette only parade lap - in the rain.. Later on Friday we shot in the garage area, track Fan Zone, GM and various other exhibits, Rolex 24 DP and GT practice and the beginning of the Continental Tire Grand Am 200. Saturday we shot more garage area, pit road Pre-Race celebration, some front-stretch track shots, and the first three hours of daylight racing-vantage points along the grandstands Front-stretch. Sunday we finished up in the grandstands at the entrance/exit of the inside road course - shooting lots of entry and exit action.. With five new Corvette Daytona Prototypes on the starting grid and 4 finishing (the #10 Suntrust Corvette experienced early motor issues and only made about 16 laps before retiring to the hauler) there was almost always a Corvette in our viewfinder! Congrats to the Action Express #5 & #9 cars for finishing 5th and 9th respectively, the Spirit of Daytona #90 Corvette finishing 8th (all finishing the same in class) and the #99 Gainsco machine for finishing a bit further back in 33rd overall and 13th in class. For Corvette fans like us, GM, Grand Am, Rolex, DIS and the Owner Teams made great gains in their fan base by taking many key design cues from the Corvette and incorporating them into the new Chevrolet Powered DP Prototypes.. No wonder this year's Rolex 24 event was a record breaker in attendance. As a result of the new Corvettes introduction into the Rolex Series, thousands of new Corvette fans have come on board as GrandAm Rolex Series fans! Enjoy the gallery! We certainly enjoyed the shoot!
