A Gathering of American Legends
"A GATHERING OF AMERICAN LEGENDS" - There's a saying in Corvette circles referring to the car as "The Only True American Sports Car." Not hard to understand when you consider that Corvette's history as an automotive and racing icon dates back more than fifty-seven years. In the Corvette world, although every car is special, only a select few models rise to legendary status. One such model is the Corvette known as "Z06." The Corvette Z06 first hit the scene in 1963 when Corvette Chief Engineer Zora Arkus Duntov invisioned a race ready, available to the public version of his newly redesigned Corvette released in the early 60's. Only one hundred ninty-nine Z06's were produced as specially prepared versions of the one year only infamous Split Window Coupe. Forty-one years later, the "Z06" was reborn to the C-5 era in similar fashion. By the end of that era, only one C-5 Z06 made legendary status - introduced in limited numbers for model year 2004 as the "Commemorative Edition Z06." Then, during the C-6 era, two more legendary Z06's arrive by the end of the 2008 model year: The 2007 "Ron Fellows Championship Edition Z06," and one year later, the 2008 "427 Limited Edition Z06." As members of the Corvette Club of Orlando, Sandi and I are very fortunate to be in the company of friends who own the magnificent machines in these images. And to boot, one of the two blue '04 Z06's in this shoot actually lives in our own garage! Fellow members, I want to personally thank all of you for allowing us to photograph your special cars. It was truly an honor to be part of "A Gathering of American Legends!"
